Those who set the Ranks • 182 Ayahs

وَٱلصَّـٰٓفَّـٰتِ صَفًّا

Wassaffati saffa

By those [angels] lined up in rows

فَٱلزَّٰجِرَٰتِ زَجْرًا

Fazzajirati zajra

And those who drive [the clouds]

فَٱلتَّـٰلِيَـٰتِ ذِكْرًا

Fattaliyati thikra

And those who recite the message,¹

إِنَّ إِلَـٰهَكُمْ لَوَٰحِدٌ

Inna ilahakum lawahid

Indeed, your God is One,

رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَرَبُّ ٱلْمَشَـٰرِقِ

Rabbu assamawati wal-ardiwama baynahuma warabbu almashariq

Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them and Lord of the sunrises.¹

إِنَّا زَيَّنَّا ٱلسَّمَآءَ ٱلدُّنْيَا بِزِينَةٍ ٱلْكَوَاكِبِ

Inna zayyanna assamaaaddunya bizeenatin alkawakib

Indeed, We have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment of stars

وَحِفْظًا مِّن كُلِّ شَيْطَـٰنٍ مَّارِدٍ

Wahifthan min kulli shaytaninmarid

And as protection against every rebellious devil

لَّا يَسَّمَّعُونَ إِلَى ٱلْمَلَإِ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ وَيُقْذَفُونَ مِن كُلِّ جَانِبٍ

La yassammaAAoona ila almala-ial-aAAla wayuqthafoona min kulli janib

[So] they may not listen to the exalted assembly [of angels] and are pelted from every side,¹

دُحُورًا ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ وَاصِبٌ

Duhooran walahum AAathabun wasib

Repelled; and for them is a constant punishment,

إِلَّا مَنْ خَطِفَ ٱلْخَطْفَةَ فَأَتْبَعَهُۥ شِهَابٌ ثَاقِبٌ

Illa man khatifa alkhatfatafaatbaAAahu shihabun thaqib

Except one who snatches [some words] by theft, but they are pursued by a burning flame, piercing [in brightness].

فَٱسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَهُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَم مَّنْ خَلَقْنَآ ۚ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَـٰهُم مِّن طِينٍ لَّازِبٍۭ

Fastaftihim ahum ashaddu khalqan amman khalaqna inna khalaqnahum min teeninlazib

Then inquire of them, [O Muḥammad], "Are they a stronger [or more difficult] creation or those [others] We have created?" Indeed, We created them [i.e., men] from sticky clay.

بَلْ عَجِبْتَ وَيَسْخَرُونَ

Bal AAajibta wayaskharoon

But you wonder, while they mock,

وَإِذَا ذُكِّرُوا۟ لَا يَذْكُرُونَ

Wa-itha thukkiroo la yathkuroon

And when they are reminded, they remember not.

وَإِذَا رَأَوْا۟ ءَايَةً يَسْتَسْخِرُونَ

Wa-itha raaw ayatanyastaskhiroon

And when they see a sign, they ridicule.

وَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌ مُّبِينٌ

Waqaloo in hatha illasihrun mubeen

And say, "This is not but obvious magic.

أَءِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ

A-itha mitna wakunnaturaban waAAithaman a-innalamabAAoothoon

When we have died and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected?

أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ

Awa abaona al-awwaloon

And our forefathers [as well]?"

قُلْ نَعَمْ وَأَنتُمْ دَٰخِرُونَ

Qul naAAam waantum dakhiroon

Say, "Yes, and you will be [rendered] contemptible."

فَإِنَّمَا هِىَ زَجْرَةٌ وَٰحِدَةٌ فَإِذَا هُمْ يَنظُرُونَ

Fa-innama hiya zajratun wahidatunfa-itha hum yanthuroon

It will be only one shout, and at once they will be observing.

وَقَالُوا۟ يَـٰوَيْلَنَا هَـٰذَا يَوْمُ ٱلدِّينِ

Waqaloo ya waylana hathayawmu addeen

They will say, "O woe to us! This is the Day of Recompense."

هَـٰذَا يَوْمُ ٱلْفَصْلِ ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ

Hatha yawmu alfasli allatheekuntum bihi tukaththiboon

[They will be told], "This is the Day of Judgement which you used to deny."

۞ ٱحْشُرُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ وَأَزْوَٰجَهُمْ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْبُدُونَ

Ohshuroo allatheena thalamoowaazwajahum wama kanoo yaAAbudoon

[The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds,¹ and what they used to worship

مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ فَٱهْدُوهُمْ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ

Min dooni Allahi fahdoohum ilasirati aljaheem

Other than Allāh, and guide them to the path of Hellfire

وَقِفُوهُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُم مَّسْـُٔولُونَ

Waqifoohum innahum masooloon

And stop them; indeed, they are to be questioned."

مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنَاصَرُونَ

Ma lakum la tanasaroon

[They will be asked], "What is [wrong] with you? Why do you not help each other?"

بَلْ هُمُ ٱلْيَوْمَ مُسْتَسْلِمُونَ

Bal humu alyawma mustaslimoon

But they, that Day, are in surrender.

وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ

Waaqbala baAAduhum AAala baAAdinyatasaaloon

And they will approach one another asking [i.e., blaming] each other.

قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّكُمْ كُنتُمْ تَأْتُونَنَا عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِ

Qaloo innakum kuntum ta/toonanaAAani alyameen

They will say, "Indeed, you used to come at us from the right."¹

قَالُوا۟ بَل لَّمْ تَكُونُوا۟ مُؤْمِنِينَ

Qaloo bal lam takoonoo mu/mineen

They [i.e., the oppressors] will say, "Rather, you [yourselves] were not believers,

وَمَا كَانَ لَنَا عَلَيْكُم مِّن سُلْطَـٰنٍۭ ۖ بَلْ كُنتُمْ قَوْمًا طَـٰغِينَ

Wama kana lanaAAalaykum min sultanin bal kuntum qawman tagheen

And we had over you no authority, but you were a transgressing people.

فَحَقَّ عَلَيْنَا قَوْلُ رَبِّنَآ ۖ إِنَّا لَذَآئِقُونَ

Fahaqqa AAalayna qawlu rabbinainna latha-iqoon

So the word [i.e., decree] of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment].

فَأَغْوَيْنَـٰكُمْ إِنَّا كُنَّا غَـٰوِينَ

Faaghwaynakum inna kunnaghaween

And we led you to deviation; indeed, we were deviators."

فَإِنَّهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ فِى ٱلْعَذَابِ مُشْتَرِكُونَ

Fa-innahum yawma-ithin fee alAAathabimushtarikoon

So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment.

إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ

Inna kathalika nafAAalu bilmujrimeen

Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals.

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوٓا۟ إِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ

Innahum kanoo itha qeela lahumla ilaha illa Allahu yastakbiroon

Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allāh," were arrogant

وَيَقُولُونَ أَئِنَّا لَتَارِكُوٓا۟ ءَالِهَتِنَا لِشَاعِرٍ مَّجْنُونٍۭ

Wayaqooloona a-inna latarikoo alihatinalishaAAirin majnoon

And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?"

بَلْ جَآءَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَصَدَّقَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

Bal jaa bilhaqqi wasaddaqaalmursaleen

Rather, he [i.e., the Prophet (ﷺ)] has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers.

إِنَّكُمْ لَذَآئِقُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابِ ٱلْأَلِيمِ

Innakum latha-iqoo alAAathabial-aleem

Indeed, you [disbelievers] will be tasters of the painful punishment,

وَمَا تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ

Wama tujzawna illa makuntum taAAmaloon

And you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do -

إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ

Illa AAibada Allahialmukhlaseen

But not the chosen servants of Allāh.

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ رِزْقٌ مَّعْلُومٌ

Ola-ika lahum rizqun maAAloom

Those will have a provision determined -

فَوَٰكِهُ ۖ وَهُم مُّكْرَمُونَ

Fawakihu wahum mukramoon

Fruits;¹ and they will be honored

فِى جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ

Fee jannati annaAAeem

In gardens of pleasure

عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مُّتَقَـٰبِلِينَ

AAala sururin mutaqabileen

On thrones facing one another.

يُطَافُ عَلَيْهِم بِكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍۭ

Yutafu AAalayhim bika/sin min maAAeen

There will be circulated among them a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring,

بَيْضَآءَ لَذَّةٍ لِّلشَّـٰرِبِينَ

Baydaa laththatin lishsharibeen

White and delicious to the drinkers;

لَا فِيهَا غَوْلٌ وَلَا هُمْ عَنْهَا يُنزَفُونَ

La feeha ghawlun walahum AAanha yunzafoon

No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated.

وَعِندَهُمْ قَـٰصِرَٰتُ ٱلطَّرْفِ عِينٌ

WaAAindahum qasiratu attarfiAAeen

And with them will be women limiting [their] glances,¹ with large, [beautiful] eyes,

كَأَنَّهُنَّ بَيْضٌ مَّكْنُونٌ

Kaannahunna baydun maknoon

As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected.

فَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ

Faaqbala baAAduhum AAala baAAdinyatasaaloon

And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other.

قَالَ قَآئِلٌ مِّنْهُمْ إِنِّى كَانَ لِى قَرِينٌ

Qala qa-ilun minhum innee kanalee qareen

A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth].

يَقُولُ أَءِنَّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُصَدِّقِينَ

Yaqoolu a-innaka lamina almusaddiqeen

Who would say, 'Are you indeed of those who believe

أَءِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَدِينُونَ

A-itha mitna wakunnaturaban waAAithaman a-innalamadeenoon

That when we have died and become dust and bones, we will indeed be recompensed?'"

قَالَ هَلْ أَنتُم مُّطَّلِعُونَ

Qala hal antum muttaliAAoon

He will say,¹ "Would you [care to] look?"

فَٱطَّلَعَ فَرَءَاهُ فِى سَوَآءِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ

FattalaAAa faraahu feesawa-i aljaheem

And he will look and see him¹ in the midst of the Hellfire.

قَالَ تَٱللَّهِ إِن كِدتَّ لَتُرْدِينِ

Qala tallahi in kidtalaturdeen

He will say, "By Allāh, you almost ruined me.

وَلَوْلَا نِعْمَةُ رَبِّى لَكُنتُ مِنَ ٱلْمُحْضَرِينَ

Walawla niAAmatu rabbee lakuntu minaalmuhdareen

If not for the favor of my Lord, I would have been of those brought in [to Hell].

أَفَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَيِّتِينَ

Afama nahnu bimayyiteen

Then, are we not to die

إِلَّا مَوْتَتَنَا ٱلْأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ

Illa mawtatana al-oolawama nahnu bimuAAaththabeen

Except for our first death, and we will not be punished?"

إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ

Inna hatha lahuwa alfawzu alAAatheem

Indeed, this is the great attainment.

لِمِثْلِ هَـٰذَا فَلْيَعْمَلِ ٱلْعَـٰمِلُونَ

Limithli hatha falyaAAmali alAAamiloon

For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work.

أَذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ نُّزُلًا أَمْ شَجَرَةُ ٱلزَّقُّومِ

Athalika khayrun nuzulan am shajaratuazzaqqoom

Is that [i.e., Paradise] a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqūm?

إِنَّا جَعَلْنَـٰهَا فِتْنَةً لِّلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

Inna jaAAalnahafitnatan liththalimeen

Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers.

إِنَّهَا شَجَرَةٌ تَخْرُجُ فِىٓ أَصْلِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ

Innaha shajaratun takhruju fee aslialjaheem

Indeed, it is a tree issuing from the bottom of the Hellfire,

طَلْعُهَا كَأَنَّهُۥ رُءُوسُ ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينِ

TalAAuha kaannahu ruoosu ashshayateen

Its emerging fruit as if it was heads of the devils.

فَإِنَّهُمْ لَـَٔاكِلُونَ مِنْهَا فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنْهَا ٱلْبُطُونَ

Fa-innahum laakiloona minhafamali-oona minha albutoon

And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies.

ثُمَّ إِنَّ لَهُمْ عَلَيْهَا لَشَوْبًا مِّنْ حَمِيمٍ

Thumma inna lahum AAalayha lashawbanmin hameem

Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water.

ثُمَّ إِنَّ مَرْجِعَهُمْ لَإِلَى ٱلْجَحِيمِ

Thumma inna marjiAAahum la-ila aljaheem

Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire.

إِنَّهُمْ أَلْفَوْا۟ ءَابَآءَهُمْ ضَآلِّينَ

Innahum alfaw abaahum dalleen

Indeed they found their fathers astray.

فَهُمْ عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَـٰرِهِمْ يُهْرَعُونَ

Fahum AAala atharihimyuhraAAoon

So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps.

وَلَقَدْ ضَلَّ قَبْلَهُمْ أَكْثَرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

Walaqad dalla qablahum aktharual-awwaleen

And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples,

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا فِيهِم مُّنذِرِينَ

Walaqad arsalna feehim munthireen

And We had already sent among them warners.

فَٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلْمُنذَرِينَ

Fanthur kayfa kanaAAaqibatu almunthareen

Then look how was the end of those who were warned -

إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ

Illa AAibada Allahialmukhlaseen

But not the chosen servants of Allāh.

وَلَقَدْ نَادَىٰنَا نُوحٌ فَلَنِعْمَ ٱلْمُجِيبُونَ

Walaqad nadana noohunfalaniAAma almujeeboon

And Noah had certainly called Us, and [We are] the best of responders.

وَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُ وَأَهْلَهُۥ مِنَ ٱلْكَرْبِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

Wanajjaynahu waahlahu mina alkarbialAAatheem

And We saved him and his family from the great affliction.

وَجَعَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُۥ هُمُ ٱلْبَاقِينَ

WajaAAalna thurriyyatahu humualbaqeen

And We made his descendants those remaining [on the earth]

وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ

Watarakna AAalayhi fee al-akhireen

And left for him [favorable mention] among later generations:

سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰ نُوحٍ فِى ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

Salamun AAala noohinfee alAAalameen

"Peace upon Noah among the worlds."

إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ

Inna kathalika najzee almuhsineen

Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.

إِنَّهُۥ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

Innahu min AAibadinaalmu/mineen

Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.

ثُمَّ أَغْرَقْنَا ٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَ

Thumma aghraqna al-akhareen

Then We drowned the others [i.e., disbelievers].

۞ وَإِنَّ مِن شِيعَتِهِۦ لَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ

Wa-inna min sheeAAatihi la-ibraheem

And indeed, among his kind was Abraham,

إِذْ جَآءَ رَبَّهُۥ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍ

Ith jaa rabbahu biqalbinsaleem

When he came to his Lord with a sound heart

إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِۦ مَاذَا تَعْبُدُونَ

Ith qala li-abeehi waqawmihi mathataAAbudoon

[And] when he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?

أَئِفْكًا ءَالِهَةً دُونَ ٱللَّهِ تُرِيدُونَ

A-ifkan alihatan doona Allahitureedoon

Is it falsehood [as] gods other than Allāh you desire?

فَمَا ظَنُّكُم بِرَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

Fama thannukum birabbialAAalameen

Then what is your thought about the Lord of the worlds?"

فَنَظَرَ نَظْرَةً فِى ٱلنُّجُومِ

Fanathara nathratanfee annujoom

And he cast a look at the stars.

فَقَالَ إِنِّى سَقِيمٌ

Faqala innee saqeem

And said, "Indeed, I am [about to be] ill."

فَتَوَلَّوْا۟ عَنْهُ مُدْبِرِينَ

Fatawallaw AAanhu mudbireen

So they turned away from him, departing.

فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰٓ ءَالِهَتِهِمْ فَقَالَ أَلَا تَأْكُلُونَ

Faragha ila alihatihimfaqala ala ta/kuloon

Then he turned to their gods and said, "Do you not eat?¹

مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنطِقُونَ

Ma lakum la tantiqoon

What is [wrong] with you that you do not speak?".

فَرَاغَ عَلَيْهِمْ ضَرْبًۢا بِٱلْيَمِينِ

Faragha AAalayhim darban bilyameen

And he turned upon them a blow with [his] right hand.

فَأَقْبَلُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِ يَزِفُّونَ

Faaqbaloo ilayhi yaziffoon

Then they [i.e., the people] came toward him, hastening.

قَالَ أَتَعْبُدُونَ مَا تَنْحِتُونَ

Qala ataAAbudoona ma tanhitoon

He said, "Do you worship that which you [yourselves] carve,

وَٱللَّهُ خَلَقَكُمْ وَمَا تَعْمَلُونَ

Wallahu khalaqakum wamataAAmaloon

While Allāh created you and that which you do?"

قَالُوا۟ ٱبْنُوا۟ لَهُۥ بُنْيَـٰنًا فَأَلْقُوهُ فِى ٱلْجَحِيمِ

Qaloo ibnoo lahu bunyananfaalqoohu fee aljaheem

They said, "Construct for him a structure [i.e., furnace] and throw him into the burning fire."

فَأَرَادُوا۟ بِهِۦ كَيْدًا فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمُ ٱلْأَسْفَلِينَ

Faaradoo bihi kaydan fajaAAalnahumual-asfaleen

And they intended for him a plan [i.e., harm], but We made them the most debased.

وَقَالَ إِنِّى ذَاهِبٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّى سَيَهْدِينِ

Waqala innee thahibun ilarabbee sayahdeen

And [then] he said, "Indeed, I will go to [where I am ordered by] my Lord; He will guide me.

100

رَبِّ هَبْ لِى مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ

Rabbi hablee mina assaliheen

My Lord, grant me [a child] from among the righteous."

101

فَبَشَّرْنَـٰهُ بِغُلَـٰمٍ حَلِيمٍ

Fabashsharnahu bighulamin haleem

So We gave him good tidings of a forbearing boy.

102

فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ مَعَهُ ٱلسَّعْىَ قَالَ يَـٰبُنَىَّ إِنِّىٓ أَرَىٰ فِى ٱلْمَنَامِ أَنِّىٓ أَذْبَحُكَ فَٱنظُرْ مَاذَا تَرَىٰ ۚ قَالَ يَـٰٓأَبَتِ ٱفْعَلْ مَا تُؤْمَرُ ۖ سَتَجِدُنِىٓ إِن شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ

Falamma balagha maAAahu assaAAyaqala ya bunayya innee ara fee almanamiannee athbahuka fanthur mathatara qala ya abati ifAAal ma tu/marusatajidunee in shaa Allahu mina assabireen

And when he reached with him [the age of] exertion,¹ he said, "O my son, indeed I have seen in a dream that I [must] sacrifice you, so see what you think." He said, "O my father, do as you are commanded. You will find me, if Allāh wills, of the steadfast."

103

فَلَمَّآ أَسْلَمَا وَتَلَّهُۥ لِلْجَبِينِ

Falamma aslama watallahuliljabeen

And when they had both submitted¹ and he put him down upon his forehead,

104

وَنَـٰدَيْنَـٰهُ أَن يَـٰٓإِبْرَٰهِيمُ

Wanadaynahu an ya ibraheem

We called to him, "O Abraham,

105

قَدْ صَدَّقْتَ ٱلرُّءْيَآ ۚ إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ

Qad saddaqta arru/yainna kathalika najzee almuhsineen

You have fulfilled the vision." Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.

106

إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلْبَلَـٰٓؤُا۟ ٱلْمُبِينُ

Inna hatha lahuwa albalaoalmubeen

Indeed, this was the clear trial.

107

وَفَدَيْنَـٰهُ بِذِبْحٍ عَظِيمٍ

Wafadaynahu bithibhinAAatheem

And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice,¹

108

وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ

Watarakna AAalayhi fee al-akhireen

And We left for him [favorable mention] among later generations:

109

سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ

Salamun AAala ibraheem

"Peace upon Abraham."

110

كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ

Kathalika najzee almuhsineen

Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.

111

إِنَّهُۥ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

Innahu min AAibadinaalmu/mineen

Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.

112

وَبَشَّرْنَـٰهُ بِإِسْحَـٰقَ نَبِيًّا مِّنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ

Wabashsharnahu bi-ishaqanabiyyan mina assaliheen

And We gave him good tidings of Isaac, a prophet from among the righteous.¹

113

وَبَـٰرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَىٰٓ إِسْحَـٰقَ ۚ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا مُحْسِنٌ وَظَالِمٌ لِّنَفْسِهِۦ مُبِينٌ

Wabarakna AAalayhi waAAalaishaqa wamin thurriyyatihima muhsinunwathalimun linafsihi mubeen

And We blessed him and Isaac. But among their descendants is the doer of good and the clearly unjust to himself [i.e., sinner].

114

وَلَقَدْ مَنَنَّا عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَ

Walaqad mananna AAala moosawaharoon

And We did certainly confer favor upon Moses and Aaron.

115

وَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُمَا وَقَوْمَهُمَا مِنَ ٱلْكَرْبِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

Wanajjaynahuma waqawmahumamina alkarbi alAAatheem

And We saved them and their people from the great affliction,

116

وَنَصَرْنَـٰهُمْ فَكَانُوا۟ هُمُ ٱلْغَـٰلِبِينَ

Wanasarnahum fakanoohumu alghalibeen

And We supported them so it was they who overcame.

117

وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمَا ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ ٱلْمُسْتَبِينَ

Waataynahuma alkitabaalmustabeen

And We gave them the explicit Scripture [i.e., the Torah],

118

وَهَدَيْنَـٰهُمَا ٱلصِّرَٰطَ ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمَ

Wahadaynahuma assirataalmustaqeem

And We guided them on the straight path.

119

وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِمَا فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ

Watarakna AAalayhima fee al-akhireen

And We left for them [favorable mention] among later generations:

120

سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَ

Salamun AAala moosawaharoon

"Peace upon Moses and Aaron."

121

إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ

Inna kathalika najzee almuhsineen

Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.

122

إِنَّهُمَا مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

Innahuma min AAibadinaalmu/mineen

Indeed, they were of Our believing servants.

123

وَإِنَّ إِلْيَاسَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

Wa-inna ilyasa lamina almursaleen

And indeed, Elias was from among the messengers,

124

إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِۦٓ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ

Ith qala liqawmihi alatattaqoon

When he said to his people, "Will you not fear Allāh?

125

أَتَدْعُونَ بَعْلًا وَتَذَرُونَ أَحْسَنَ ٱلْخَـٰلِقِينَ

AtadAAoona baAAlan watatharoona ahsanaalkhaliqeen

Do you call upon Baʿl¹ and leave the best of creators -

126

ٱللَّهَ رَبَّكُمْ وَرَبَّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

Allaha rabbakum warabba aba-ikumual-awwaleen

Allāh, your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers?"

127

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَإِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَ

Fakaththaboohu fa-innahum lamuhdaroon

And they denied him, so indeed, they will be brought [for punishment],

128

إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ

Illa AAibada Allahialmukhlaseen

Except the chosen servants of Allāh.

129

وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ

Watarakna AAalayhi fee al-akhireen

And We left for him [favorable mention] among later generations:

130

سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰٓ إِلْ يَاسِينَ

Salamun AAala il yaseen

"Peace upon Elias."¹

131

إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ

Inna kathalika najzee almuhsineen

Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.

132

إِنَّهُۥ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

Innahu min AAibadinaalmu/mineen

Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.

133

وَإِنَّ لُوطًا لَّمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

Wa-inna lootan lamina almursaleen

And indeed, Lot was among the messengers.

134

إِذْ نَجَّيْنَـٰهُ وَأَهْلَهُۥٓ أَجْمَعِينَ

Ith najjaynahu waahlahuajmaAAeen

[So mention] when We saved him and his family, all,

135

إِلَّا عَجُوزًا فِى ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَ

Illa AAajoozan fee alghabireen

Except an old woman [i.e., his wife] among those who remained [with the evildoers].

136

ثُمَّ دَمَّرْنَا ٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَ

Thumma dammarna al-akhareen

Then We destroyed the others.

137

وَإِنَّكُمْ لَتَمُرُّونَ عَلَيْهِم مُّصْبِحِينَ

Wa-innakum latamurroona AAalayhim musbiheen

And indeed, you pass by them in the morning

138

وَبِٱلَّيْلِ ۗ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ

Wabillayli afala taAAqiloon

And at night. Then will you not use reason?

139

وَإِنَّ يُونُسَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

Wa-inna yoonusa lamina almursaleen

And indeed, Jonah was among the messengers.

140

إِذْ أَبَقَ إِلَى ٱلْفُلْكِ ٱلْمَشْحُونِ

Ith abaqa ila alfulki almashhoon

[Mention] when he ran away to the laden ship.

141

فَسَاهَمَ فَكَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُدْحَضِينَ

Fasahama fakana mina almudhadeen

And he drew lots¹ and was among the losers.

142

فَٱلْتَقَمَهُ ٱلْحُوتُ وَهُوَ مُلِيمٌ

Faltaqamahu alhootu wahuwamuleem

Then the fish swallowed him, while he was blameworthy.¹

143

فَلَوْلَآ أَنَّهُۥ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُسَبِّحِينَ

Falawla annahu kana minaalmusabbiheen

And had he not been of those who exalt Allāh,

144

لَلَبِثَ فِى بَطْنِهِۦٓ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ

Lalabitha fee batnihi ilayawmi yubAAathoon

He would have remained inside its belly until the Day they are resurrected.¹

145

۞ فَنَبَذْنَـٰهُ بِٱلْعَرَآءِ وَهُوَ سَقِيمٌ

Fanabathnahu bilAAara-iwahuwa saqeem

But We threw him onto the open shore while he was ill.

146

وَأَنۢبَتْنَا عَلَيْهِ شَجَرَةً مِّن يَقْطِينٍ

Waanbatna AAalayhi shajaratan minyaqteen

And We caused to grow over him a gourd vine.¹

147

وَأَرْسَلْنَـٰهُ إِلَىٰ مِا۟ئَةِ أَلْفٍ أَوْ يَزِيدُونَ

Waarsalnahu ila mi-ati alfinaw yazeedoon

And We sent him¹ to [his people of] a hundred thousand or more.

148

فَـَٔامَنُوا۟ فَمَتَّعْنَـٰهُمْ إِلَىٰ حِينٍ

Faamanoo famattaAAnahum ilaheen

And they believed, so We gave them enjoyment [of life] for a time.

149

فَٱسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَلِرَبِّكَ ٱلْبَنَاتُ وَلَهُمُ ٱلْبَنُونَ

Fastaftihim alirabbika albanatuwalahumu albanoon

So inquire of them, [O Muḥammad], "Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons?¹

150

أَمْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ إِنَـٰثًا وَهُمْ شَـٰهِدُونَ

Am khalaqna almala-ikata inathanwahum shahidoon

Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses?"

151

أَلَآ إِنَّهُم مِّنْ إِفْكِهِمْ لَيَقُولُونَ

Ala innahum min ifkihim layaqooloon

Unquestionably, it is out of their [invented] falsehood that they say,

152

وَلَدَ ٱللَّهُ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَكَـٰذِبُونَ

Walada Allahu wa-innahum lakathiboon

"Allāh has begotten," and indeed, they are liars.

153

أَصْطَفَى ٱلْبَنَاتِ عَلَى ٱلْبَنِينَ

Astafa albanati AAalaalbaneen

Has He chosen daughters over sons?

154

مَا لَكُمْ كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُونَ

Ma lakum kayfa tahkumoon

What is [wrong] with you? How do you make judgement?

155

أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ

Afala tathakkaroon

Then will you not be reminded?

156

أَمْ لَكُمْ سُلْطَـٰنٌ مُّبِينٌ

Am lakum sultanun mubeen

Or do you have a clear authority?¹

157

فَأْتُوا۟ بِكِتَـٰبِكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ

Fa/too bikitabikum in kuntum sadiqeen

Then produce your scripture, if you should be truthful.

158

وَجَعَلُوا۟ بَيْنَهُۥ وَبَيْنَ ٱلْجِنَّةِ نَسَبًا ۚ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمَتِ ٱلْجِنَّةُ إِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَ

WajaAAaloo baynahu wabayna aljinnatinasaban walaqad AAalimati aljinnatu innahum lamuhdaroon

And they have made [i.e., claimed] between Him and the jinn a lineage, but the jinn have already known that they [who made such claims] will be brought [to punishment].

159

سُبْحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ

Subhana Allahi AAammayasifoon

Exalted is Allāh above what they describe,

160

إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ

Illa AAibada Allahialmukhlaseen

Except the chosen servants of Allāh [who do not share in that sin].

161

فَإِنَّكُمْ وَمَا تَعْبُدُونَ

Fa-innakum wama taAAbudoon

So indeed, you [disbelievers] and whatever you worship,

162

مَآ أَنتُمْ عَلَيْهِ بِفَـٰتِنِينَ

Ma antum AAalayhi bifatineen

You cannot tempt [anyone] away from Him

163

إِلَّا مَنْ هُوَ صَالِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ

Illa man huwa sali aljaheem

Except he who is to [enter and] burn in the Hellfire.¹

164

وَمَا مِنَّآ إِلَّا لَهُۥ مَقَامٌ مَّعْلُومٌ

Wama minna illa lahumaqamun maAAloom

[The angels say],¹ "There is not among us any except that he has a known position.²

165

وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ ٱلصَّآفُّونَ

Wa-inna lanahnu assaffoon

And indeed, we are those who line up [for prayer].

166

وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ ٱلْمُسَبِّحُونَ

Wa-inna lanahnu almusabbihoon

And indeed, we are those who exalt Allāh."

167

وَإِن كَانُوا۟ لَيَقُولُونَ

Wa-in kanoo layaqooloon

And indeed, they [i.e., the disbelievers] used to say,¹

168

لَوْ أَنَّ عِندَنَا ذِكْرًا مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

Law anna AAindana thikranmina al-awwaleen

"If we had a message from [those of] the former peoples,

169

لَكُنَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ

Lakunna AAibada Allahialmukhlaseen

We would have been the chosen servants of Allāh."

170

فَكَفَرُوا۟ بِهِۦ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ

Fakafaroo bihi fasawfa yaAAlamoon

But they disbelieved in it,¹ so they are going to know.

171

وَلَقَدْ سَبَقَتْ كَلِمَتُنَا لِعِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

Walaqad sabaqat kalimatuna liAAibadinaalmursaleen

And Our word [i.e., decree] has already preceded for Our servants, the messengers,

172

إِنَّهُمْ لَهُمُ ٱلْمَنصُورُونَ

Innahum lahumu almansooroon

[That] indeed, they would be those given victory

173

وَإِنَّ جُندَنَا لَهُمُ ٱلْغَـٰلِبُونَ

Wa-inna jundana lahumu alghaliboon

And [that] indeed, Our soldiers [i.e., the believers] will be those who overcome.¹

174

فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ

Fatawalla AAanhum hatta heen

So, [O Muḥammad], leave them for a time.

175

وَأَبْصِرْهُمْ فَسَوْفَ يُبْصِرُونَ

Waabsirhum fasawfa yubsiroon

And see [what will befall] them, for they are going to see.

176

أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونَ

AfabiAAathabina yastaAAjiloon

Then for Our punishment are they impatient?

177

فَإِذَا نَزَلَ بِسَاحَتِهِمْ فَسَآءَ صَبَاحُ ٱلْمُنذَرِينَ

Fa-itha nazala bisahatihimfasaa sabahu almunthareen

But when it descends in their territory, then evil is the morning of those who were warned.

178

وَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ

Watawalla AAanhum hatta heen

And leave them for a time.

179

وَأَبْصِرْ فَسَوْفَ يُبْصِرُونَ

Waabsir fasawfa yubsiroon

And see, for they are going to see.

180

سُبْحَـٰنَ رَبِّكَ رَبِّ ٱلْعِزَّةِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ

Subhana rabbika rabbi alAAizzatiAAamma yasifoon

Exalted is your Lord, the Lord of might, above what they describe.

181

وَسَلَـٰمٌ عَلَى ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

Wasalamun AAala almursaleen

And peace upon the messengers.

182

وَٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

Walhamdu lillahirabbi alAAalameen

And praise to Allāh, Lord of the worlds.

Translation: Sahih International
